Here is my second attempt at using my 0-GPS1 in Astrotracer mode, shot using Pentax DA* 60-250, F4 90 seconds at 1600 ISO.
Showing the Star Vega and surroundings in the constellation Lyra, unfortunately have not had clear skies since I shot this in November...

I did exactly the same when I first updated my K-7 a few years ago, 32GB cards were very expensive then

Andy,

If you are feeling brave you can buy a replacement screen from E-bay for around £26 (including opening tools) and fit it yourself. A friend of mine replaced a broken screen on his Nikon and said that it was not a difficult job (he did previously work as an electronics engineer though).

My K-7 did this when I fist got it. I tried a simple mechanical fix by operating the wheel quickly by rubbing my finger tip back and forth a few times over it. It worked for me, must have cleared the speck of dust or whatever it was.
The camera has taken well over 10,000 frames since with no more problems.

If it does not help, I would not use electrical cleaner, if it gets past the seals you don't know what it can come into contact with. Some materials can be damaged by solvents.

I have uploaded a raw file if anyone would like to have a play, right click the link and save as, it is 23.5Mb so might take a little time to get. link
Just had a quick look at the DNG it looks sharp

I presume the Windermere shot was taken on another camera?
Strangely it shows the type of Jaggies that you would expect
from a camera that hasn't got an anti-alias filter in the
sails and aerials of the boat Is that due to
processing or the camera?

Some shots of a yachting marina would be an ideal test

The Windermere shot was from my K-7

They look really good.

On the exif data it states;

Planar Configuration Chunky

What is this??? Is it a setting??
Don't know what it is, I didn't select it in the settings. The files were raw (DNG), converted to 16 bit Tiffs by Photoshop CS5 camera raw before using Photomatix, then back to Photoshop for a bit more jiggery-pokery.

I'd be really interested in your pics and comments too - I'm getting to the point of making the move from K7 to K5(something) and IIs is top of the list at the moment. But being a cautious soul I'm keen to see what others' experiences are first.
I picked up my K-5IIs yesterday from my local camera shop in Preston (pre-ordered). Like you I upgraded from a K-7. First impressions are very good, although I think mostly by the K-5 features of low noise etc. My style is mainly HDR landscapes. I shot some images this morning and am really pleased with how easily they processed, the three major processing changes from the K-7 were the lack of noise, dynamic range and how little sharpening I had to do. The images from this morning are in my Flickr photostream link
