K-5IIs has arrived

Just received my K-5IIs from SRS last night. So far everything looks good. I haven’t had much time to experiment yet and testing was interrupted last night by problems with my Metz 58 AF-2 flash gun

I will try and post more after the weekend.

I am really interested to see a range of 'real world' shots with the KIIs and also to hear some proper views about it from real users. Looking forward to you reporting back!

I'd be really interested in your pics and comments too - I'm getting to the point of making the move from K7 to K5(something) and IIs is top of the list at the moment. But being a cautious soul I'm keen to see what others' experiences are first.

I picked up my K-5IIs yesterday from my local camera shop in Preston (pre-ordered). Like you I upgraded from a K-7. First impressions are very good, although I think mostly by the K-5 features of low noise etc. My style is mainly HDR landscapes. I shot some images this morning and am really pleased with how easily they processed, the three major processing changes from the K-7 were the lack of noise, dynamic range and how little sharpening I had to do. Thanks for this and I've checked out your images and they look so sharp, looks you've had a nice day up there. I think you may have helped me decide. Been very happy with K-7 but time for a change up and the IIs does appear to be right in so many ways.

One is never going to have a perfect camera. I use mine for landscape and occasionally for work (images for corporate work - dull but needs crisp images).

How the components of each pixel are stored.

The specification defines these values:

1 = Chunky format. The component values for each pixel are stored contiguously. For example, for RGB data, the data is stored as RGBRGBRGB
2 = Planar format. The components are stored in separate component planes. For example, RGB data is stored with the Red components in one component plane, the Green in another, and the Blue in another.

Don't know what it is, I didn't select it in the settings. The files were raw (DNG), converted to 16 bit Tiffs by Photoshop CS5 camera raw before using Photomatix, then back to Photoshop for a bit more jiggery-pokery.
I have uploaded a raw file if anyone would like to have a play, right click the link and save as, it is 23.5Mb so might take a little time to get. link

It would be nice to see a comparison from someone who has gone from K-5 to K-5 IIs. Jumping from a K-7 means you don't take into account everything you already had with a plain K-5 so it would be a much bigger jump in IQ/performance.

I took mine out today no comparisons shots but it seem to focus a lot faster and IQ seems sharper will take both K5 and K5-11s out tomorrow and try a true comparison by taking same shoe with each camera with the same lens on and post the resulting images

Is the focus significantly faster? The reviews I've seen this week suggest its not that big a jump.... I keep looking at the d600 ....
