The World Press Photo Foundation has announced their 2010 awards.

There's a lot of news coverage of it on the net; one interesting story is here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1356081/The-catapult-kid-Bangkok-Time-co...

And of course there is a list of winners, a gallery and some more info on the World Press Photo website itself: http://www.worldpressphoto.org/

Some of you might have seen this work in various ways before, but this is really quite amazing, and well worth five minutes' viewing:

‎'For 50 years Milton Rogovin documented the urban poor and working classes in places such as Buffalo and Appalachia. He died today at his home, at the age of 101.'

Thanks for the thoughts on these guys.

Flight from Notre Dame Cathedral, Saigon

Thought I'd post a little series I put together for the last publication of online doco magazine SEA Collectiv.

Whilst street photography normally focuses on human life, there is also a strong tradition of photographing the living creatures which share our urban spaces.

This series, Flight!, was born of both the street photography tradition and a reaction to the abundance of clear, colour nature photography circulating today.

I have preferred to depict common birds, in common human environments, with a view to showing that nature doesn't just exist in pristine or remote environments, but is part of everyday life.
