Thanks for that, woodworm. I'll check them out.
Another reason I want to move away from Photobox is their % take from the photo's I sell. I'd rather pay an annual subscription or better still, none at all.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone out there know of an alternative to Photobox Pro; a web based service that will host several galleries and allow visitors to purchase prints.

I've done some research on the net but all of the possible alternatives I have found either host photos but dont provide an integrated print service or print photos but dont host them.

Photobox prints vary in quality and I do not have the IT skills yet to embed PAYPAL and a gallery function into a website hence the search for a Photobox Pro alternative.

Thanks,
Chris

Thank you everyone.
I posed the question only because of the comment on the web site.

If I was taking only a couple of shots I'd use RAW and reduce/remove the noise during post processing, however when I attend a watersports event I can have up to 300 or 400 photos to batch process using Noiseware SE

I was curious to see if the K5 noise reduction could save me the time of post processing noise - I've decided anyway to continue to use Noiseware which works well for me.

As for film - I remember it well - pushing my Ilford 125 or 400 ISA in developing to higher ISA's; using different tempertures to control grain etc. However I dont use film anymore, I'm all digital and wont be going back.

I bought a K5 last weekend and have spent this week trawling the internet for additional useful info re it's use.
I found this on the internet:

Six settings are available for high ISO noise reduction: off, low, medium, high, auto, and custom. The custom setting allows the user to manually specify noise reduction settings for each ISO individually. This is a helpful feature, ideal for for balancing the strong effect of this camera’s noise reduction algorithm, against the tendency to lose sharpness with reduction enabled. We recommend medium settings up to ISO 200, and high for 400 and above.

On my K10 I turned off the noise reduction and used Noiseware SE to reduce/remove noise during post processing.

Would you advise the same approach with the K5

Chris

Thank you all for your advice. I've downloaded the firmware update and I'll try the other suggestions in the near future,

Hi everyone, I bought a K5 yesterday and have a couple of questions that I could not find an answer to in the forum -the answers are probably on the forum but I cant find them.

1. How do I confirm what firmware my K5 has?
2. Having had a K10(10MP) for a long time I was used to getting approx 1500 JPEGS on a 8GB card. Obviously the number is greatly reduduced on the K5(16MP) due to file sizes. Most of the photos I have previously printed out have been A3 and the IQ has been great.

Considering I only print A3 is there any real benefit to setting the K5 to 16mp, ****JPEG or should I set it to 10mp ****JPEG. (General photography)

What would be best for photos you know in advance that you are going to have to heavily crop even when using a 300* or 100-300 with a matching 1.4 TC (Sports photography)

Finally if you are wondering why I am posting on a sunny afternoon instead of being outdoors using my new K5 - I had a freak accident last night and broke my right foot and toes. I'm now confined to the house!!!

QC, I've just bought a K5 today as replacement for my K10D. It was a very tough decision as I was about to jump ship to the Nikon D7000 or D300 for their 'better' 3d autofocus system. However it would have meant trading in some great lenses for buttons in order to buy the equivalent Nikon lenses; and why do that? Do I really want to be a just another sheep in the Canikon herd? No I dont think so!

My K10 has had a hard life and I've worked around it's failings for sports photography so I'm expecting great things from the K5. If the K5 fails to deliver I'll be shocked!

I've come as far as I can with the K10, I've genuinely outgrown it so I bid it a fond farewell. If you've outgrown your KX get the K5.

Only you know the answer to that question. But just in case you dont - buy the K5. By all accounts you wont regret it.

Regards
Chris
