Hi everyone,

Does anyone out there know of an alternative to Photobox Pro; a web based service that will host several galleries and allow visitors to purchase prints.

I've done some research on the net but all of the possible alternatives I have found either host photos but dont provide an integrated print service or print photos but dont host them.

Photobox prints vary in quality and I do not have the IT skills yet to embed PAYPAL and a gallery function into a website hence the search for a Photobox Pro alternative.

Thanks,
Chris

I use Zenfolio, purely for personal use but you can sell photo's using their service. I think they use Photobox for their UK printing though ...

Thanks for that, woodworm. I'll check them out.
Another reason I want to move away from Photobox is their % take from the photo's I sell. I'd rather pay an annual subscription or better still, none at all.

Everything has a cost attached to it. You can't expect somebody handling your merchandise and selling it on your behalf for nothing.

Ask yourself what you'd charge somebody else for the service and convenience, and you'll find the fees charged by most website quite bearable.

I ahve recently started using photoshelter

But have yet to see the quality of the print product, I am mainly hoping to sell digital downlaods although they do do prints as well...

Have you ever thought about hosting your own site? Not as hard as you think. There are so many website building softwares out there, or you could always get someone to build you one (I'm looking at a friends daughter who is studying web design at college). Then its just a matter of finding someone to print. Sounds long winded, but in the end you have 100% control and do not have to pay a % of what you sell just printing costs. The cost of website vary but you would no doubt get a deal from your ISP.

I tried this and its so difficult to do. A lot easier to get someone to do it all for you...

Its ok running your own site, but how about a client orders a print from your own hosted website whilst you are on day one of a fortnights holiday??

Smugmug have recently done a deal with Loxley Colour to print for UK customers. According to the rhetoric it chould be seamless to the customer but I don't know anyone who's tried it first-hand.
