Hi gartmore - many thanks for the reply - really helpful comments. I hadn't considered the concept of 'selling the rights'...is that why some websites can sell on photos for say £2-10 and other image banks will sell them for £100's to £1000's - I guess thereby including royalties/commission charges? Are you saying that if we buy an image 'commercially' ie shops etc that it would be ok then to display it in public premises ?
I wholly agree with you that any creative effort should have it's just rewards and I, like you would be hacked off if i saw my images being used without my consent etc.

Hi everyone,
Hopefully an interesting query. A client wants us to supply 100 framed photos to a local footie teams refurbished clubhouse. This is to consist partly of current club members and also B&W pics of 'classic' players ie Pele etc. Having researched copyright and spoken to Getty images, obviously this is illegal without sourcing the photos from a bona fide image bank. (mind you , it's interesting to see that they want £1250 for Ronaldo and Nobby Stiles !!) Any one else had experience of this situation ? Seems a shame that a local footie club can't display photos (no commercial gain as such either) without forking out a huge fortune. Just remembered that you can buy 'photos' of bands etc in many shops and also just found a site that 'sells' photos of football players for £2 a time...so how can they do that for profit ? Are they sending a commision onto the photographed person ??
Blimey now my heads spinning - far too many permutations going on - will have a cuppa, do some more research and take my picture of Kylie off my bedroom wall before she comes round and sues me ( I should be so lucky...lucky lucky lucky !)
