15-30 does seem steep... but on the other hand what Pentax branded lens have you bought that you have been dissatisfied with?

rockwell nuts

The 28-105mm looks interesting ... its quite close to the 18-135mm DA in size and weight...

Presumably it'll be bundled at some point?

FA 31.. I thought the FA 35 I had before it was good... the FA 31 is a whole new level

50-135 can't imagine a zoom being any better

Conqueror, I could get the stars to stay still with an astrotracer, the moving sensor would make a mess of the arc though, and foreground would be blurred. And I'd still lose the structure.
Only taken the lens out twice. First time there was an aurora on the day I got it. That's when I found out the focus ring goes beyond the infinity mark, si I shot some rubbish that night. My photo in this thread was then taken on my second night out
A separate image for the foreground, combined with an astrotracer image of the sky is a way round this. I've not tried it yet though.

If you want to do astro, its improtant infinity is set correctly - I assume it is on this Sigma

15 secs at f2 is, I think, equivalent to 60 secs at f4.

Bruce, in this photo the structure within the arc approx 3rd of the way in from the right would have been lost at 60 secs. Not to mention there'd be very obvious star trails. So it would be a very different photo
With f4 60 secs... you could also utilise astrotracer / OGPS1

You could also stop the sigma down to f4 and utilise astrotracer... that would be interesting

I'm interested to see what happens if you stop the 20-40mm down and use astrotracer... not seen many examples of that

It is a very handy lens for parties and other social events where you are working at close quarters.
Don't disagree... though its not exactly small... so wonder what people think when its near them!
