As I have stated before, although I am arguing the case for the Pentax I'm basically being devils advocate. If I was given £181 tomorrow to spend on a flashgun then it would be the Samsung 54, the Sigma 500 Super or the Pentax 360 in that order.
I'm working hard on myself, trying to justify finding the money for the Samsung.
So far, I've got:
- the built in flash simply doesn't cut the mustard
- I want wireless
- I've only got a couple of old manual guns
- the Samsung 54 is almost certainly the same as the Pentax 540, and I'm not at all interested in the badge if that's the case
- I've spent a bloody fortune in the last 6 months on camera gear, what's another £250 or so (including the off-camera bits we were talking about earlier) ... poverty is poverty
Any more good reasons to go for it, to push me over the edge?

what extra bits would I need with either of these to mount the gun on a hammerhead?
For the AF-540 (or equiv) there's a connector on the left hand side (not very handy on that side TBH), which means you'll need the hotshoe adapter Fg and a curly cable.
Will cost anywhere up to £30 each second hand for those two bits.
For the AF-360 you'll need the "Off camera adapter F" that connects the cable and provides a hotshoe. Again, up to about £30.
Thanks for that.

I wonder if the flashes are identical bar the name
A bit of a coincidence if they're different inside.
On another note, a bit of a noob question if you'll forgive me... what extra bits would I need with either of these to mount the gun on a hammerhead? It weighs nearly a pound, so it would be nice to be able to have it off the camera.

It now seems there is a samsung SEF 36PZF as well as the SEF 54PZF. these guns are £149-99 &£181-99 at Amazon etc. As I said before they are rebadged Pentax guns.Well what do you all think?
I won't be paying an extra £150 for a Pentax badge just for a flashgun. But the £30 more than the Sigma gun (EF-500 DG Super) probably is worth paying for what I'd guess to be slightly better build quality and compatibility.

Whoops. I meant: If it is NOT exactly the same, electronically, I would be amazed.
(and, incidentally, I was referring to my own assumptions/hopes about compatibility as having the holes, not anyone else's).

Wow. At that price it's very tempting. Only about £30 quid more than the Sigma, and presumably less risky in terms of compatibility (?)

I know... more holes than Swiss cheese.

I've never heard of a samsung 54 - nor can I find any reference to it on google! Do you have a link?

So, today I poped by SRS microsystems in Rayners Lane - they made my life a little easier! The only flash they had was the EF-500 DG ST for £99; so I got that!
I'll be after the Super, probably, since I want wireless, and I can't justify stretching to the Pentax AF540.

I'm begining to wish I had never mentioned the Samsung flashguns now as I seem to have stired up a hornets nest of confusing information.
I was a little uneasy about the prospect of the Sigma, and the Pentax is just too much money.
So now I have a realistic prospect of being able to afford a very well-specified gun, so I'm very grateful.
