the obvious flaws in DPReview's RAW sample (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/PentaxK10D/page22.asp, eg top crop, see gaps in the swashes at left and right and general roughness)
Can you be more specific about what you're seeing?

The Pentax and Canon crops are different sizes, so it's not clear to me that the comparison is a good one. The Canon one is smaller, so all other things being equal, you'd expect it to appear sharper.

I'm not entirely sure what advantages P-TTL has but so far I've seen no sign of it's being a better performer than TTL was anyway.
Is it as good, if not actually better, in your experience?

It looks pretty dark on my screen, even though it's been calibrated recently!

However, the problem with mine is that it's pretty old, and its max brightness isn't enough to show very dark detail.

Aye, no doubt the 77mm F1.8 is a great lens if you can't find or afford an FA* 85mm F1.4
I'd love to see a comparison between the two.
What, with "tests"?
Yup, with an objective and competent reviewer.

Fat chance.
Hey, let me have both of them, I'll give it my best, er, shot.

All else being equal, by introducing a new range of K-mount lenses, Zeiss will increase the supply of lenses
Who are they targeting, do you think, by introducing such a range of manual focus lenses?
Enthusiasts with a bit of money. I think it was Brian who pointed out that their macro lenses are both very fast, and sharp at full aperture, and therefore fill a gap, of sorts.

But since Pentax already has a better range of top-quality prime lenses below 100mm than other manufacturers, I think the gaps are rather small.
Much as I thought. Shame there's nothing there either very wide, or much longer (as well as fast) and AF.

Hey, I got a new word..
Me too. I had to look it up as well. That's the second one I've had from George. Though I can't remember what the other one was offhand...

#1. He looks a bit miserable in the second one.

If you converted the RAW to JPEG in the camera without any other modifications, it's interesting and worth more of a look.
No it isn't - just a plain upload of the jpeg and the raw image - from the raw+ feature.
Sure, but the pictures that you uploaded to your Picasa web album are both JPEGs - the RAW one must have been converted somehow.

So it's possible that whatever did the conversion treated the two differently.

Are you new to photography? If so, it might be worth getting more used to the camera, and picture taking, before worrying too much about the difference you've seen.
Lol - yeah I'm pretty new - but was fuzzed about the dark tone.

Thanks for the replies - from you and G.

I'm trying to get more used to the camera - that's why I asked
Very sensible to ask. It's just that there are lots of variables to worry about - there's the exposure, there's whatever happens to it in the computer, and there's the monitor.

Sorting out all these things and being certain of which one causes which effect is not easy.

So maybe stick with either JPEG or RAW for now, and eliminate one of the variables !
