Yet another view (it really is a terrific building):
It is. Much, much more impressive, and interesting, up close than I could ever have imagined from the photos I'd seen beforehand, or indeed, sadly, from the ones I took.

We've seen this picture of yours of it here before, I believe? It's good to see it again.

Just received my copies of the December 2007 Issue of Digital SLR Magazine UK. They did an incredible job of printing.
Ah, to get a six page series of one's photos published in a magazine...

... and worry about whether they printed them well enough...
Sorry, I am a bit jaded...
No problem... it's aspirational, seeing how the other half lives

Here is mine cropped too 100%. I was going to leave a bit of the sky as you have done but decided against it

Just a touch of sharpening to enhance the grout between the tiles.
That detail is terrific. It's crying out to be printed large enough to show it.

Chris i can still go in another 70% on that opera house shot if thats what you mean : Just show me where you want it cropped and i will take a chop out of the raw file.
Well, this was the detail I was hoping for, but as I say, I think I'm being unreasonable to hope to be able to see it in your picture on a monitor.

If it's in the un-resized version, I reckon you could turn that into a fantastic print.

I think the first one is an excellent abstract, and as such you could be even bolder, and darken it slightly more so that the detail at the very bottom is less visible.

It's a tribute to the designers that the SOH works so well with so many different interpretations.

If that's the whole frame though, it's a little disappointing not to be able to see the finer detail between the main zig-zags.

Is it there, or is there just a slight lack of sharpness for some reason? I might be expecting too much, though. Looking at mine, the ones where I could resolve that detail were taken a bit closer than that.*

I like the ship too. The sepia treatment isn't unreasonable, but I'd like to see the colour version as well.

*Edit: actually on reflection I think I'm just expecting too much. I'm not sure many monitors would be able to resolve detail that fine. If I resize my only photo where I captured it, the detail disappears.

with the risk of batteries expiring during transfer, which could be a disaster.
Why so? Is there evidence that files on the card get corrupted with half-completed copy operations?

John why is a card reader most efficient?
Speed isn't usually my main consideration when I want to get pictures off the camera. If there are lots of them, and I want to get another card into the camera quickly, swapping the cards and using a reader for the one that's now out of the camera is the clear choice.

However, for a couple of shots, connecting the camera to the computer is often more convenient.

This all begs the question though, which of the doors is likely to wear more quickly, on the K10D for instance? If you're swapping cards in and out frequently, or alternatively opening the USB door all the time, you might want to do whichever causes less wear.

I knew that no good would come of shipping all those criminals off to Australia.
I'd like to take this opportunity to celebrate some of the values we have in the West, in which I naturally include Australia and New Zealand.

Personally, I think this comment is in slightly bad taste, but I know I've said things in the past that I regret, and I also know how difficult it can be to say the right thing in difficult situations, and as a consequence have shoved my foot right into my mouth once or twice in my time.

So living in a glass house as I do, I am in no way throwing stones.

However, it does occur to me that there are other places in the world, where an imagined, rather then actually intended, offence, seems to give rise to the most horrible reactions, and I am very glad I don't live in any of those places.

So, Friday night as it is, I raise my glass to Western Civilisation. It might have its faults, but we don't imprison people, or as some would prefer, shoot them by firing squad, if, as I've been known to, they say or do something that comes across a bit differently from the way they intended.

Sorry to hear this, mate. It's crap isn't it. I can't think of anything helpful to say, but here's one Pom that's thinking of you.
