Apologies for the lack of research before asking this...

... but is it possible to force an SDM lens that can use the body's screw drive on a non-SDM-enabled body, to use the screw drive on an SDM-enabled body?

Update:

It turns out my brother did a load of slide photography in his pre-digital days, and has lent me a bunch of Kodachrome slides.

I'll scan a few, and see how they turn out, so watch this space. I'll post the results on my other thread, to keep the experiences with the scanner in the same place.

If you're using Kodachrome, you may want to bear in mind the limitations of the Digital ICE system that comes with my Nikon scanner (and others).

That said, some seem to use it successfully, and the version of the scanning software that I have has a specific Kodachrome setting, so it may well be Ok.

If you really wanted to take me up on this, I'd be happy to give it a go for free on a couple of slides just to see whether the results were good enough for you. In fact, if it's just the odd slide you want scanned here and there, I wouldn't want anything for it - happy to help out.

Obviously if you were going to start wanting to do a lot, it would take some time, and if I'm honest, I must say it would be nice to be able to recoup a bit of the hardware investment!!

I think they all tend a wee bit to the cyan side of things which may just be down to the age of the film.
Interesting. Which of these do you think looks better?

The one on the left is the same as before, just half the size. The one on the right has Cyan/Red balance +20 away from cyan.

I took this in November 1988. I still like the expression I captured, but I'm not sure about the pose. I could probably have done with a reflector, but I didn't know about such things then. Her husband still has this photo on his desk, twenty years later, so I must have done something right.

Does the resting on her hand work, or does her arm look a little disconnected? It strikes me differently each time I look at it...

Is it worth putting a little more effort into the noise reduction?

Since you said MACRO, I doubt you can retain resolution with scans from prints??

Thanks for the prices. Very informative.
So let me get this clear, ideally for Macro shots I should opt for Scan slides into CD and that price is £0.50 per slide between 1 to 99 images which would be 14MB resolution.

Thanks
I'd do it for you for less than this!!!

Its the colour of it that needs addressin' maybe, Chris.
Not sure... the bottom left hand corner appears browner than the rest of the black unlit underside of the structure. I guess it's just not quite as dark as the rest of it. I'm sure it's genuine, it just spoils the abstract slightly.

This is one of those pictures I hate.

I can't think of anything to say about it, other than (very) nice pic!

George, I recommend the word "dissonance".

The particular dissonance I see is the way the four apparently live, yet lifeless faces are looking so intently at (but not quite directly at) the left-hand mannequin, which is itself, faceless, looking in a direction at right angles. Yet the other mannequin is looking directly back at them, although its head, that clearly isn't there, is out of frame.

Dissonance upon dissonance. The ultimate in unsatisfying satisfaction. Or do I mean satisfying dissatisfaction'

Please, no Rolling Stones quotes.

An excellent angle, iconoclastic as ever.

There's some weirdness lower left that distracts a bit from the perfection we normally expect, however.

Otherwise, fascinating.

Sorry Chris read it a bit differently.
You can also put one more in it and go for a RAID 3, 4 or 5 option.
So you put 3 drives in but only lose a total of 1 drive, leaving you with 2TB but also the protection of one drive failure.
Well yes. It's always a balance between how much data there is, how often it needs to be accessed, how often it changes, etc etc.

It certainly doesn't need the performance benefits of striping, and it doesn't need to be instantly available if the main drive holding it dies. So RAID of any flavour is probably overkill for now.
