I believe that your affection for Ilife makes the descision for you....
Aperture.
I suppose you are right Don. I love me Mac and I love iLife. The only reason I hesitate is because I've been using photoshop for years and I'm used to this software and I assumed it could be similar.

Thank you for the link! It looks very interesting.

Tyr summed it up best: I must test both to see how they "feel". I'd still love to hear about everyone's experience (I saw your review Tyr whilst doing a search; fantastic!)

Now that I have a D-SLR, it's time to learn to classify all these shots. I'm looking into either Adobe's Lightroom or Apple's Aperture. I would love to have feedback on the two.

In the days when I'd scan my photos, I would use photoshop a lot so I am used to their interface but from their website it looks very different than photoshop.

I own a MacBook and I love the iLife suite. In fact, I use iPhoto for family pictures taken with our P+S camera. Is Aperture as integrated as iLife?

Thanks for your feedback!

I keep mistaking the focussing ring for the zoom ring
Luckily, I managed to get that right straight away but my husband and friends always use the focus ring instead if the zoom ring when they play with my new toy. I was wondering if it can damage the mechanism because if it can, I will always give a strong warning everytime my hubby picks up the camera (and I don't care if he thinkgs I'm a nag!^.^)

Do let us know how well it works for ya. Love to see real images and any info on speed, quiteness, water tightness. (OK, you probably wont want to fully test the latter)
The DA*50-135 f2.8 is an amazing lens. Once you update the firmware (v.1.30), it's almost silent! It really makes a difference. I think it's pretty quick but as I've said before I never really used AF when I was shooting film.
As requested, I've put up some images online. It allows me to test some of Aperture's features. You may be disappointed though because I don't know how to make the images any bigger; sorry! The images taken with the DA* are quite crisp and it works wonders even in very dark situations. If you look in my photo gallery, the first 3 images were taken in a room where the shutters we closed "à l'espagnol" so there was very little natural light coming into the room.

I love the details I get with this lens. It's clearly evident when you look at the panda picture and you see each little bump on the wall clearly. Same goes for the curtain shot; the details around the letter T are impressive (and yes I know, they need a good wash). For the DVD image, you can even read the fine print (with Aperture's loupe) on the box!

Of course when you attach the 50-135 to the camera, it's much heavier but again, I was expecting much worse. I do notice though that I tend to tilt to the left so perhaps I really should consider buying a monopod for when I go outside.

I'm still in the learning process concerning the different exposure modes so it would be unfair for me to say anything about them. Overall, I've been happy with the exposure metering (especially since I've been shooting in darkish environment).

It's not quiet though; that I can tell you. I don't know how it compares to other AF lenses but you do hear it when doing AF.
Oh La La!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was waiting for my battery to be recharged before updating the firmware so I only did it this morning.

Oh la la! Oh La La!

It's as if I have a new klens! The DA*50-135mm is COMPLETELY silent! The AF BIP-BIP sound seems so loud now! I'm impressed!

As a matter of interest, why the 16-45 lens rather than the DA* 16-50.
Because I can't afford it

Just need a few more lenses first as sharing them will be a pain if we don't have a few more to go around.
That's probably a good idea. My husband and I can't share a computer. Thankfully he's not into DSLR.

Here's a pic of myself and my new toy.

I will post some images sometime this weekend.
It's difficult for me to compare speed because I never really used auto-focus before. I bought one very crappy AF lens for my Nikon eons ago and it was so bad that I ended up using my dad's old manual Nikon lenses.

It's not quiet though; that I can tell you. I don't know how it compares to other AF lenses but you do hear it when doing AF.

As for the waterproof factor, I'll wait for you to test it on August 15!

The lens is not that heavy. Nor is the K10D for that matter. When I was researching everyone was saying how heavy it was. It's not that bad actually (perhaps I was imagining much worse).

Thanks for telling me how to upgrade; that way I don't need to look anywhere else online.

I'm sure I'll come up with more questions soon.

Hello,

I've been lurking in this forum for a couple of weeks and I must say this forum has been of tremendous help to me. The K10D is my first ever digital camera and I think I will have lots of questions in the coming weeks (I used to shoot with a Nikon F90x).

Today I bought:
K10D body
DA* 50-135 (they received it yesterday)
remote control (I can't believe how small it is. I probably have already lost it!?)
an extra battery
lexar professional 4GB SDHC 133x card

If ever my banker recovers from today, I intend to purchase a 16-45mm in the coming days/weeks and a flash in the coming weeks/months.

I'm soooooooo excited! ^.^

I do have a question about the card. I know I must download a Pentax upgrade but do I have to do something with the card as well?

Well, I better get back to the instruction book.

p.s.: Does it take a long time to get used to the fact that there's no aperture ring on my lens? It feels so strange.
