This seems way too dark on my monitor, has the makings of a great shot. I'm no expert on planes but would see if you can lighten this in post processing.
When I've shot the red Arrows i tend to add a stop of exposure compensation or more since the bright sky can fool the camera. I'd also drop the Fstop a bit to F8 - F11 depending on ISO or wider if necessary.

Well timed with a nice angle Simon, I'm regularly trying to catch flame or sparks at the F1 or BTCC with limited success to date.

That's really original and very effective, because even amongst the non-avaition fraternity (at least in the UK) most people would still recognise it for what it is.
