If you visit the Isle of Wight take the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry ( every half hour) It is by far the prettiest route. Whilst on the Island visit Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House and Newtown Creek. Drive along the Military Road from Chale to Freshwater. Like most holiday resorts there is a wide range of options for accommodation. The Island roads are not the best in the UK and the local police are quite fussy over speed limits.

Exmoor is wonderful. Try the riverside walk from Brendon to Watersmeet, it is delightful. Refreshments at Watersmeet. Further up the same river but in more open country is the Doone Valley. Start at Malmsmead and walk up stream for several miles until you reach the high moorland. Refreshments along the way at Cloud Farm ( the cream teas are enormous ). Dunkery Beacon is the highest point on the Moor and affords some wonderful views. Porlock Weir on the coast is also worth a visit.

Should you get to Cornwall the spectacular coastal walks are a must, especially on the north coast.

I hope you have a wonderful time, I'm quite envious.

That was rather an insensitive comment. Have you never lost a much loved pet?

NO! Please restore the original colours.

I too agree. The new colours are terrible and makes reading the messages difficult. Whoever decided to alter them please change them back to the original.

Good on you Dan.

I like to see people doing things for wildlife. Do foxes bother hedgehogs ? We have a few foxes that share our space?
Nope. Too prickly.

George, thank you for your quick reply to my question. I did look at the link which you provided before posting my request for help but unfortunately the information contained therein related to the D and DS.

It would seem that provided the circuitry of the DL is not more sensitive than its predecessors there shouldn't be any problems.

Fingers crossed - I'll post my findings when I've summoned the courage to try it.

I have a Vivitar 550 FD which I use on a Pentax MX and would like to know whether it is possible to use it on the *ist DL. I know it will not operate in P-TTL mode but I am concerned whether its use will damage the DL. My local camera shop says don't use it. A search on the internet suggests that it is possible ( with restrictions on auto focus).
A search on this forum indicates such guns are safe on the *istD.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Rodger, I like the pictures. Approach the bridge from the other side of the river, it will save all those steps and you can park at the top of the hill.
Also you will have a lovely view over the valley.
