Completely and utterly the SD Cards to blame here. A pity as I thought the Panasonic would be up for it.
So for the rest of the holiday any movies I am using a 8GB microSD card in an adaptor! Works a treat... (and cost about 1/5th of what the other cards cost)

Just weird about the Panasonic Class 10 - never would have thought speed an issue, but the proof of the pudding!
Back to stills for this trip! And time for bed before wifey kills me, ain't jet lag wonderful...
Thanks again for the help,
Rick

= SD Cards.
I have 2x8GB Class 6 and 1x8GB Class 10. All limit the movie size.
If I put in any old thing, even a microSD 4GB with an adaptor - movie limit is simply space on the card.
Go figure. What am I missing? I had thought the K7 could handle cards up to 16GB? The 8GB cards certainly are ok with stills - no problem there?
Many thanks for your responses, and that really helps out for this trip - maybe I need to buy new cards on my return.

I'd usually just read the K7 manual for this question, but I'm travelling in the States without it, and don't want to download a large PDF over a 3G (UK) mobile! Ouch $$££$£...
On this trip I have started to use the movie mode a lot more, and have noticed that when I start recording it shows how many minutes I can take to fill the SD cards capacity. But after about 30 to 40 seconds the recording stops and this is effectively the max movie length I can take. On 16:9 mode. The allowed length/size does not seem consistant - 164MB to 230MB.
User error? Limit of the camera? Or the SD card? (currently a 8GB Panasonic Gold Class 10)
Many thanks for any answers, and apologies if I am delayed in responding due to travel.

I'm pretty new here myself and likewise take a lot of mountain photo's on alpine trips. Not sure I'm up to huge climbs though, mainly "tough alpine walks" like mount blanc. Chose my K7 in large part for the size, weight, cold resistance as well as to return more into the fold of Pentax.
Will be very interested to see how you get on!
Happy clicking! I know I have not really stopped or had chance to sort since picking up the K7

No more cmd or drag and drop.

Is the 30-to-40-something bulge do do with the age of Pentax? I still love my first pentax, a K1000, like nothing else.

The fact the Pentax released a "statement" to the effect, with no mention of batches, model numbers, or production runs indicates that they all may do this. But, your guess is as good (or much better seeing you own one) than mine. I just have one on order...
As Chirpy says - maybe it was only the first batch. Lets hope so!
Thanks Shaky on the translation - a fair cop - I speak only school-boy conversational German, and more to the point I did not do that translation - it was copied from pentaxforums.com.

If it helps use SanDisk Extreme III 8GB and it works without limitations (unless the sensor overheats).
Thanks guys,
Rick
