I've been watching some Sean Tucker You Tube videos on the GRIII and I am taking another look. I have (ssshhh) a Sony RX100iii which I don't really use as much as I should - preferring to lug (happily) my K1, simply because I prefer the interface and output. What do you think to the GRIII?
I have too agree that the interface on the K1 feels right and natural to me (but then again I've evolved along with Pentax since the *ist DS) and I shoot Raw with the K1 and find the files great to process. I've got used to the menu system on the Ricoh but again part of that is due to familiarity with the GRII - but the speed of use of the GRIII (Snap function + AV @ f5.6 is my default) is superb - and the keeper rate is pretty high. The User modes are the next thing I need to set up (1 for B&W) as I've seen they can be used to great effect.

I can't compare to any other similar compacts but apart from the lack of WR the GRIII is an excellent tool for the job when the K1 is too big/heavy to lug around. Hope that helps a little
Yes, I've been with Pentax for over 30 years (since film) and like them. From what I've seen on the GR it is the simplicity of still shooting that attracts, I'd still use it in RAW and process in LR. Do you ever use the crop options or always at 28mm and then crop in processing?

Really lovely place - I know it well. If you go over the headland to the south into the next cove there are some great opportunities too (and hardly anyone goes there). Is no.10 with the Irix - I'm toying with the idea of getting one, have you had consistent results?

Mine was a P30 - can't remember much about it other than I used it a lot to record various research projects I was involved in through the late 80's and early 90's, then went to an MZ5 or 7 I think, which might be still around somewhere.

My very first camera, however was a Rolleiflex - which is great and had a fixed focal pull out and twist lens. That one got abused terribly.

Thanks for the advice, I've checked and all corrections are off. I'm using a newly acquired DA* 16-50. The SD card is rated as 95mbs. It is taking about 6secs (seemed longer) to write a RAW file, I only shoot in RAW. I tend to use a very basic set up, usually set to Manual, and usually though not always use manual focus, even on AF lenses. I will continue to go through the menu list and see if there is anything activated that I don't really need. I never shoot video, so I can't comment on that.

Recently my camera has started taking 10-15s to write a RAW file to card. I've tried various brands and types and I have most recent firmware update for this camera. If I was pushed I'd say the issue started after that firmware update, but I might be imagining that. Is there anything I can try to stop this from happening?

Shouldn't have looked at the Flickr - DOH! Alan B some lovely shots! I've done part of the route, carrying a tent. I especially liked the black & white landscape (Day 2 I think) and also the shot of the bridge and supports. Looks like you had a good sequence of weather. I think you might have just tipped it for me…

Alan B - Nice and I tend to agree with you that it is a good useful range, although some of the reviews have criticised what they see as a slightly odd range 20-40. But as you seem to have experienced, it is a good range for much outdoor use. I've got a 10-20, but in many landscapes it is too wide. I've started carrying my 35mm lens for many outings, as it is sharp and very light. But it isn't WR. Hmmm, much to consider before next summer.

Nice colour and clarity - as I'd expect. Are those OOC or have you done some post processing?

Has anyone got any images using this relatively new lens? The reviews are good I think it might suit some of my needs and photo-styles. But as it is pricey I'd like to see some other pantaxian's images.

I think it might be a good lens to carry up in the high mountains - balancing weight, focal length ranges and WR properties. Off to the high Alps in the summer
