My K50 is massively underexposed using the view finder but seems to be ok using live view. Is there any setting I've missed that could be causing this or is it most likely hardware? Of course it had to happen at the start of a fort night holiday
You could check to see that you are not set to spot metering. This can cause exposure problems if unaware that it's set. Try centre weighted or matrix metering and that should solve that problem.

Sounds like your camera is going down the same path as my 'dead' one.

If this were me I'd be suing Pentax without hesitation. Speak to Consumer Advice.
I think a group of us with the same or similar fault on the camera, should get together. They won't listen to one person, have Googled the problem and it seems to be happening a lot with many landing up on Ebay for parts. I think with the right support I (we) could drum something up.

What do you say?

UPDATE ON CAMERA.

I've been quoted as £220 by Johnsons to fix the issue, it was a problem with the shutter. A problem which is well known by Pentax, but they don't do anything about it and keep churning them out.

So I might have to start again, who knows. This is a shame because pentax are good

how long ago did you buy it Louise?
About three years now. I've gone through Castle Cameras

if it is out of guarantee then go direct to Johnsons to try and argue the known fault case or maybe before that you could talk to your local trading standards office for advice
I might do that, it's a bit tricky to find in trading standards office in Salisbury. Castle will probably insist that I pay a huge amount of money to fix it.

Can't remember - email Johnson Photopia and tell them you are a forum member. Also tell them as a known fault Pentax should act in good faith and do the repair for free.
I've done it through Castle cameras's. Can I do this through them, or will they charge me more for what my camera is worth?

Castle will probably quote me £350 or something horrifying like that.

The unit locked up several times and required the battery to be removed. Rapidly losing faith with this model
have already, sadly looking elsewhere. especially if the problem is known to 'return'.
