I managed to contact Ricoh technical assistance regarding this issue. Here's what they said.

"Dear Mr. Pepe,
Thank you for contacting Ricoh Imaging

The M90 only has 9 usable frames. It is not possible to add more frames to this model like in the M20."

I wrote back and asked if they would consider a firmware update to make it possible to add other frames. I've received no response.

So, I guess that's it. You can't add other decorative frames to the M90 as you can on other M series cameras.

If they ever do somehow make this possible and you get to know about it, please post the solution. Thanks!!

I used to own an M20. I installed 90 other decorative frames that can be downloaded from the Pentax website on the M20. I've just bought an M90. The main reason I bought the M90 is because it too has decorative frames. There are only 9 frames that come preinstalled. I'd like to install the other 90 frames in it. I've tried everything I think possible but the camera just won't recognize them as on the M20. The M20 had a file called "FRAME". The M90 doesn't. I tried creating a Frame folder both in the camera memory and the SD card and loaded the frames in both memories at different times but the camera still didn't recognize the frames.

Can anyone please tell me how to install the decorative frames on the M90? Perhaps it isn't possilbe. If it is, I would appreciate knowing how you did it. Thanks. Angelo

I've tried to add another decorative frames made by someone using photoshop. I loaded it into the FRAME folder. When I tried to access it, as you normally would any other frame in the menu, it didn't show up with the other frames that you can choose from. However when I checked the FRAME folder by connecting the camera to my computer, it was there. Are the frames that Pentax provides the only ones that can be used in the camera(M 20), or am I doing something wrong? Do the frames need to be made using a proprietary software? Any thoughts? Thank you for the response. Along with your explanation I was able to figure it out. On the card there are two folders, one is DCIM and the other is FRAME. I've just realized that the FRAME folder is the one to copy the frames into. I simply copied most of the 90 frames into the folder and they are there. Thanks again.

Hello Everyone,

The M20 comes with 3 decorative frames in it's memory. I've downloaded the other frames from the Pentax website to my computer. The instructions on the website say to copy the frames to the root directory in the SD card. I don't have a card reader from which to access the card. So, I access the SD card in the camera by connecting the camera to my computer via USB. When I download the pictures to my computer from the camera there are always 2 folders present on the card. One has the pictures in it. But I don't know how get to the root directory like that in order to copy the decorative frames into it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Everyone, I'm interested in either the M85 or P80. Both are 12M cameras. I've compared the specs of both cameras and have noticed that the M85 allows you the option of more Mpix settings compared to the P80 when shooting stills. Can anyone shed some light as to why this is so? Although the P80 has more advanced features I'm leaning toward the M85 because of this. Can anyone suggest which of the two is better? Any thoughts? I own an MZ-M and MZ-6. I'd like to get a good Pentax flash gun that will work well with both cameras. Will the AF540FGZ work with both? I'd appreciate your input, some direction, and any suggestions you may offer.

For whatever it's worth, I own an M20 and as long as I have the settings right for the scene I'm shooting the pictures come out just fine. The camera has performed very well for me.

Thanks. Basically I find it easier to manual focus with a split prism screen. The auto focus screen is a bit trickier. I wondered thought, that, if it did take a split prism screen I could get crisper shots when manually focusing.
