Just wonder'n. How strong are the tungsten bulbs?

Also, how much power did you need to get the lightning bolts to safely arc like that?

They will definitely not be compatible with the PTTL wire less communication.
But to fire off the flash you may or may not have good luck. (I would suspect more towards no luck)

Slaves fire immediately upon sensing a flash.
The camera is going to fire a pre-flash of some sort to help determine proper exposure. This pre-flash cannot be disabled.
Usually your remote flashes will fire on the camera pre-flash and they will not be able to fire on the main flash (which is what you want).

You may need to get a dumb (non-PTL) flash for the hotshoe so that no pre-flashes are fired. Otherwise you'll need a wireless remote unit (IR or radio), or sets of cables and connectors to fire those.
I went with the dumb flash option. It is relatively cheap and works for my uses.

Edit: Argh! beaten to it again. Gotta stop eating lunch while typing

Hmmm, I tried again and the link works now. Maybe the Picasa site was just having problems again.

When you post, look at the bottom of the screen. See if you have the following item checked, "Disable BBCode in this post".
BBCode is what allows the tags such as [ IMG ] to work correctly.
If this box is checked, the link text will be seen rather than the image.

thanks, I think I fixed it. Can't for the life of me figure out how to post pictures, surely this should be a sticky somewhere?
Try the FAQ section:

By the way, I still get a "Forbidden" error when trying to access your link.

PS7 is, therefore, my usual editing program. Is this heresy?
:
Of course it is!!! How can you live with software tat isn't the latest thing, filled with (make that bloated with) all the latest most necessary features!?!?

Honestly, I hate Bridge. I didn't get enough into PS prior to CS2 to be very familiar with the browser, but it just seemed to be less of a hassle.
There probably aren't that many earth shattering features in CS and beyond with regards to everyday photo processing.

I do remember using PS7 on my old 400MHz machine, and CS2/CS3 really does not seem much faster now on my 2.6GHz machine in most respects!!

Not sure if you have the grip or not, but you can get this when using the grip. All you have to do is move the other Av/Tv dial on the grip or body (as in, if the Av dial doesn't work on the body, spin the one on the grip) and it should be sorted.

Did it to me today, and soon sorted without resorting to removal of the battery.

Hmmm, can't quite remember if I had the grip back then or not. If I did, I sure would feel stupid. Something tells me I probably did and it didn't even cross my mind. Argh!!

Either way, interesting to hear someone else had the same issue. I'll keep that in mind if it happens again. Will save the trouble and time of removing batteries!

To a great extent I have to agree with George. In fact soon after buying my K10D it stopped responding to one of the wheels for AV control. Pulling the batteries for a while solved the problem. (Of course I forgot to try in the field, and it wasn't until I got home frustrated that I remembered this trick. ).
I have not seen the problem again in months.

I would not be very quick on blaming the camera if the problem is very intermittent. But, if it becomes a recurring issue, it sounds like you may need repair. Before going that direction, try the battery. Also, could it be the memory card? Try another and see if that resolves the issue.

A diffuser will reduce the flash power to some extent. Although I would expect PTTL to compensate, I think it still has some effect.
Actually I find photos taken with or without a diffuser to be rather consistently underexposed -- but not always, of course.
I suppose better to be underexposed, than to blow the highlights. I will just generally kick the flash or the camera exposure compensation up a stop.

Something to keep in mind is that PTTL uses multi-segment metering for evaluating the exposure. Not spot meter nor center weighted. So if you're expecting a smaller portion of the viewfinder to be used for obtaining exposure, this may be part of the issue as well.
