100GB over USB will probably take about 2hrs with no hicups on eSAta about 20 mins.

My C drive (No Data stored on it)takes about 6 mins to backup and verify on eSata and about 40 mins on USB. I do it about twice a week and it's the convenience of having it done and dusted in about 6 mins that counts

USB's very slow. If the computer at work has an eSata connection I'd go for an ESata/USB box with an internal Sata drive. That way you have an additional option of sticking the HDD inside a computer connected to a Sata lead. To read from a laptop use USB or buy an sSata PCMCIA card.

This looks a good Pro box. Temperature is very important with HDD's and that one comes with monitoring software that you can't buy retail. Just look at the speeds on the graphs with a fast Samsung F3 1TB disk drive.

Keep and eye out for a cheap 50mm Yashica M42 lens f/1.7 or f/1.9.
Almost as good as the Pentax lenses stopped down and better wide open.
No good on digital. No manual switch.

Probably a marketing idea 1.4x = 1 stop of light loss
2x = 2 stops of light lost quite a lot to lose on slide film.

The values are only nominal anyway. They refer to an unspecified
lens (probably 50mm) at an unspecified distance 1m or infinity..
who knows. Plus as you focus a telephoto closer it's focal length
becomes less and the 1.4x focal length will vary.

I've often been surprised when testing a lens (at 25x) that
the f/5.6 result is better than the f/8 result and it
shouldn't be? I usually take 4 shots at each aperture
and pick the best... refocusing for each shot. At f/1.4
to f/4 only 1 shot might be good. At f/8 all 4 are
usually identical due to DOF, but it could be identicaly
off on each shot.

Next time I'll try shifting the camera back and forth
+-15mm at f/8 (on a Novoflex rack)to see if it's
any better.

Is this the straight Canon 5D?

DxOMark rated it 1 point behind the Pentax K-x?

The Landscape DR of the K-x was 1.4 EV's better.

The sports low light ISO of the Canon was better by
probably 2/3 stop.

Hopefully the K-5 will do better.

Edit: This one includes the K-7. If you look at the SNR graph the 5D and K-x are almost identical. The K-7 lags behind both of them though.
