Some old lenses have radioactive elements in them which can cause the glass to fog yellowish. I've been researching into the old Kodak Aero Ektar lenses.

If you do have a radioactive lens don't keep it under your bed
I've had no experience with the Aero lenses, but the Kodak Ektar lenses were among the best ever made and the QC was supposed to be better than the German companies. I've got a 202mm Ektar which is excellent used on a bellows (infinity focus possible). Very nice bokeh.
This is a 100% crop at wide open (f/7.7 and f/22

The new DA-L35 is apparently basically the same (optically) as the old FA35 f2, a very good lens, but not as sought after as the FA31mm.
Have a look here for an FA35 vs FA31 comparison: link
I've found the Mk 1 and Mk 2 Kit lens to be better than the A Series f/2.8 24mm and 28mm lenses. The Mk 1 was a good copy, some aren't.

The foil trick is used with M42 lenses where the base of the lens does not cover the contact pins on the camera, the same applies to those PK lenses and converters which are painted black and therefore non-conducting. By using the foil or scraping away the paint the contacts are shorted by the foil inserted between the lens and mount. If the contacts are not shorted you can not get MF focus confirmation or catch in focus.

The white stuff can be wiped off with a cloth soaked in either vinegar or lemon juice..... I can't remember which one though.
Japanese made Panasonics used to be about the best, but they seem to be made in China nowdays and aren't as good. So for the time being Eneloops are favourite.

It doesn't mean a thing, just trying to find ways to irritate

They're talking about f4 (as with the 16-45) vs f2.4 though, Smeggy. The guy who reviewed the DA-L 35 also said:
Widest aperture is actually more than f2.4, feels more like F2.1 or f2.2 lens
If a lens labeled f/2.4 were actually f/2.1 all the shots would be overexposed by about 1/3rd stop.
