C'mon John, how about some common sense please. This is clearly just a 'hey look at this great deal', and not what you're calling a 'commercial link'. The item bought within an hour of the link being posted, so it's usefulness for PU members has already been amply demonstrated.

This section is for Classified Ads and it isn't a Classified Ad, it's as simple as that. I'll move it to General Chat, but please bear it in mind.
We could end up with the forum cluttered with obsolete randomly noticed links to all sorts of things and that wouldn't really be helpful.
Some members also object to their potential bargains being spotted and ruined, particularly with links to eBay.
There are many different points of view to balance.

Lets face it guys, the powers that be have a commercial deal with SRS to part sponsor this site. Although I can understand they don't like the idea of cheaper deals being promoted there are two points.
1) I just wish they would be open about their reasoning.
2) Whatever the reasons, the 'ruling' denies Members of a very useful service.

I would point out that as the thread is here nobody has been denied anything. If the thread wasn't here we would have been denied something.
The "ruling" as you put it is a guideline from the Moderators because not all members agree with these postings and we have to take everyone into account.
I know it's always tempting to think there's a behind the scenes conspiracy, but I have to say that there isn't. Just take it at face value and you have the whole of it.

Well then I assume when, or if ever, the various suggestions for adding/changing things on the site are considered, the idea of a 'leads to deals' thread will be discussed
