Ziggy
by AndrewA
This is Ziggy, our friends dad who has had an amazing life.
At 15, as a young Polish man in Germany, he was caught by the Nazis collecting coal that had fallen from the passing trains. He was deported to a labour camp in Siberia from which he later escaped and made his way to Switzerland to join the free Polish Army.
After fighting his way through Italy, he came to England after the war and became a miner in Lancashire.
I think everyday of his amazing life is reflected in his face.

A lovely portrait - he has a wonderful face. I always like to hear a bit about the person photographed.

Apart from being an excellent portrait of a 'well lived in face' this is a fascinating story.
I know & have known several charachters ( many, sadly, now passed on) with similar histories. My own Grandfather for one.
I often wonder if I would have been of sufficiently strong character to have survived what these heroes had to endure: I doubt it.

What an amazing story. Great, telling portrait, too.
Best wishes,

Nice portrait. But surely not deported by the Nazis to Siberia! Silesia?
