Winter Sun on The Snowfield
by davidstorm
Arctic Sheffield today on the hills above Redmires Reservoir.
Although the sun was out it was snowing and the wind was whipping the lying snow across the landscape. BTW, this is not HDR.

Richard - it is SNOW!!!! The Snow was being blown across by gale force winds, this is what you can see. The weather up there yesterday was pretty Arctic - you had to be there to understand what it was like.its a very good photo dave but i got to ask ? where the sun is is your lens scratched as if you look at this photo large it does look like the lens is scratched it could be the sun shine so if it is iam very sorry still a good photo
The other images I uploaded yesterday were all with the same lens and the same camera - no scratches!! Nuri also PM'd me about this I did refer to this in the photo description, but maybe I wasn't clear enough about the effect it had on the picture.
Cheers

it's OK, David, .. as you put it so well in your PM "it looks odd"; .. but your explanation sounds convincing enough, .. and I stick to it without reserve; .. sorry about my temporary "scepticism"; ..and I maintain that this is a great capture on many respects ..
best regards
nuri

If you look to the centre left of the image, just below the line of the horizon where the white of the foreground meets the darker background, you can see the snow blowing up. The same is happening in front of the sun - you cannot see it on the rest of the sky because it is not being illuminated. Believe me, I spent several minutes trying to capture this effect and I know the conditions I was working with! To say it was cold is an understatement, my fingers got so cold I could not press the shutter button.
