Well Dressings,

by trixie

Taken in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, yesterday Wednesday 6th June at a well dressing, these are happeneing allover Derbyshire and date back to Pagen times, when people dressed wells with flowers and fruits to make thanks for clean water. Now each village and town in Derbyshire has well dressings throughout the summer months when not only wells but stands in Churches and yards are decorated with flowers, to praise God. This one is for the Queens Jubilee, in this town we found 7 wells all different and each one beautiful. I think the largest will most likely be in Eyme where the plague wiped out nearly all the people that lived there, whole families where lost.
