On the lookout
I spotted this splendid chap amongst the statues in a small sculpture park in Twickenham. Luckily I had a 200mm lens tucked into my backpack

Nice shot Mat, lucky you, as Steve said they are very difficult to get close to, well done.

What a shot, Mat. A real classic.
Best wishes,

Thanks all. I was amazed to be honest. Rarely got so close to a Heron. This was probably about 4 or 5 metres away I guess. Maybe a little more, and in a bit of an elevated position rather than wading in the edge of a the river. Seemed very unfazed by my presence, and even stayed perched long enough for me to swap lenses on my camera and get a handful of shots.

I like its standing there like an old wise man in a cloak. So sharp and beautiful.
