Thoughts

by johnriley

WE all get older, and this portrait of my Mum was intended to explore how older people become lost in their thoughts and their memories. This spot in Arley Chapel was spotlit with sun streaming through a window, so I sat Mum there and used a lot of minus exposure compensation to make sure she was correctly exposed in this pool of brilliant light. I let her sit and think while I took a few shots, and I liked the end result.

You'd never guess this was taken using the MX-1, John. How well it's handled the demanding lighting conditions. A delightful portrait.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Very nice, it stands out in the thumbnails. Normally I would say the darks are too dark, but not in this case, the stark contrasts add to the atmosphere of the image. It must have been tempting to try and balance the dark / light a bit more in post processing, but I think you made the right choice not to do it.
