The 4 p Butterfly

Note that on the left wing, "4" is "written", and on the right wing, "p" is "written" (although it looks like a pitchfork too). I don't know if anybody has ever pointed this out, but to me, it was immediately obvious, and on the internet, you will find that these markings are not one-offs, but present in most images you will find there. In any case, this is the remarkable Tiger Swallowtail butterfly, common to Eastern North American, which includes a cemetery in Toronto, where I came across it yesterday. Best seen large.

Beautiful - how I wish we had a greater number and more widely spread population of Swallowtails here in the UK.

Yours looks to be a male Eastern Tiger Swallowtail in exceptionally fine fettle
