Sunset Swans

by pgweber

I just had to share this glorious vista with you as I read on another thread that there was interest in the subject matter.

Taken just before the black and white shot of Ratcliffe Power Station at dusk ('Steam and Sunset') that I exhibited months ago, but looking the other way...which is just what the would-be censors/banners should do!

K10D/18-55 jpeg for reference.

I'm I becoming paranoid? I really have to mention the sloping horizon again, or is it how you intended?

Paul, I do not think there is a clearly defined horizon across the whole width of the picture.

I just opened it in Picasa and used the 'straighten' grid but could not see anything obvious to realign.

There is a band of cloud just over a third of the way down which seems to be flat across the picture.

However, I wish to ask if there are any other K10D users who think that they do get sloping pictures when they do not expect it?

I have tried to align straight edged subjects with the lines in the view finder and often find they are sloping. Is it my eyes playing tricks or could there be a possibility of sensor misalignment?

Looks sloped to me The visual clues that jump out at me are the tree trunks on the far left, and the tree tops on the horizon. All of them appear to be titled the same amount, which makes me think the image is not level.

Nice shot, but don't show Gartmore

Oh dear, got me worried now!

Shall have to go out into the garden and practice taking pictures of the perimeter brick wall.

I had tried to convince myself that in this and some of my railway subjects, I am not standing head-on with the subject, but off-centred (i.e. on the river bank), so that perspective and disappearing points are playing tricks.

I take your point Tim, with respect to the tree trunks, but if the trees are of different heights and at different distances, these are less easy to use, to judge.

I thought like Gartmore that it (this shot) was a bit cliched and the power station shot taken at the same time was more interesting. I was just attempting to tease the would-be censors.
