How about a lady in a red jacket ascending, or descending, the top few steps? They're never around when you need them!
The composition works really well for me Daph.

Paul is right. A person, a dog, or similar. Looking at the data you've used an aperture of f/4.5. Would have had more in focus with a smaller aperture (higher number). Would need a tripod though

Well thought out composition though

I like the composition, you have good eyes to it. But I think so it needs some post processing: you can increase the contrast, the saturation.

Good composition Daph, a simple levels adjustment, in Photo Shop, assuming you have it, would give the image a bit more punch.

You're showing a good instinct for composition, keep it up As others have said this ideally needs something to serve as a focal point. A lady in red would work well Some adjustments to levels would help too, to make the bright bits brighter and the dark bits darker.

As already said, the composition is good. The steps lead into the frame, and make me want to climb them to see what's at the top. Pretty good first effort. Keep snapping!

You're on a good thing here Daph - I for one would like to see more of your images, if this early one is any guide to the rest.
