Steam in the rain

The A4 class loco Bittern accelerates from Durham with the second stage of the Cathedrals Explorer charter train heading for Scotland.
Rain added to the atmosphere as the engine contributed a fine display of exhaust smoke and steam.
As for the overhead cables - if you can't beat 'em join 'em.

I was about 25 yards from the LC at the end of a dead straight farm road only to see the damned engine flash through in front of me, running early. I could have cried!
David, that's a spectacular shot cables or no cables. bet you got a good whiff of the smoke as well.

Peter: Sorry you missed Tornado in Nottinghamshire. I got it arriving at Durham later on the same journey.
Cliff: The sound effects were good as well as the exhaust trail. Bittern must have been on full regulator here. I was on an overbridge near where I live, about a mile and a half out of Durham station, and watched it from a standing start on dead straight track picking up speed. It was memorable.

It looks like a spider coming out of of its hole to hunt with the wires and rails around. What a powerful looking engine with its impressive front! Great shot!

I agree about the wires, sometimes you just have to work with what you've got.
