Blue Tornado
by davidtrout
Following Pete Webber's upload of Tornado in Nottinghamshire a few days ago here's my version of it later the same day at York.
This new mainline steam loco, completed just about five years ago, has now appeared in all three colours carried by the original locos of the A1 class in the late 1940s, through the 1950s and into the 1960s; original LNER light green, BR dark green and now in the BR blue.
Not a lot of people agree with me but I think this was the best colour for the East Coast Main Line premier express engines of that period.

You're right Pete about the grey. I got some pictures of it when it was nearing completion in the workshops at Darlington.

Very striking she looks in it.
I tend to think that the BR dark green is a classic livery but I don't object to the other schemes you mentioned.
Don't forget that Tornado ran in a grey livery (including at the Great Central Railway), before she was passed for the main line in late 2008/early 2009. That was quite incongrous with a "www. " web address on the tender!
