Unusual sky, perhaps a solar pillar?

Any more information about conditions?

So.... Had to look that up!
But possibly correct.
If I remember correctly, as this was taken at the beginning of the year, it was almost sunset on a reasonably still, overcast day with low temperatures.
You are seeing what I saw as no pp carried out.

I don't think so - Agreed you had to be there at that moment but then you have to decide on the composition (which is far from a typical one), set the exposure for the right effect and then choose where to focus. It looks to me that your choices have lifted this from a very nice scene to a superb final image

Got to be a POTW candidate

Fair enough and rightly so. However, you were there and were able to 'see' rather than just look. And you grabbed the opportunity. That's the difference. That's the skill. That's the reason for the well deserved POTW. I also agree with Flan.

Congratulations.
Be well, stay safe, but most of all, invest in memories

John has got it in one (or maybe several) "right time, right place" + right bloke behind the camera.
