River Adur
One from this morning. I took an HDR sequence, however this is processed from one of the images. I would value honest critique; eg does it look totally artificial. The land/ vegetation is pretty much a silhouette in the original

Must agree with all above comments. Great colours, lighting and the river leads you into the picture. Liked.

Very nice, and not artificial at all to my eyes - Liked.
I'd also like to see two other versions; one with the land completely silhouetted as you describe the 'original'; and a second with the levels of the land lifted a bit more, so that the frost is more obvious.

It doesn't look artificial at all, love the processing, hang it on the wall!

Great lighting, hues, textures and journey in this🙂 The tonal range looks realistic - our eyes / brain compute a vast range of contrast in comparison with a camera's interpretation in a single frame

First rate... just the right amount of detail in the grass for me without over doing it... super shot...

Thanks everyone - much appreciated.
I agree and it is roughly as i recall the scene, albeit the grass and frost were perhaps a bit brighter.
About the two other versions Phil; the one with brighter frost would take me a bit too long at present to try and process and still get a realistic sky & reflection. My attempts so far look pretty bad. The other is easier to do and I have posted it in Your Photos; link

Doesn't look the least bit artificial. It's lovely - very like it was here yesterday morning - when I didn't have my camera with me !!

Many thanks for posting the silhouette version (which also works well IMHO), but having seen it I think that on balance I prefer this one.

Agree with all of the above, doesn't look in the least artificial, as with other comments I agree it looks "like the eye would have seen" as opposed to "what the sensor captured". I also have played around with capturing files for HDR, and although I have seen very good, and natural looking, HDR work by others, my experience echoes yours. I have always been happier with the results I have got by processing a single RAW frame than by stacking and processing HDR. Having said that, shooting bracketed frames in wide contrast situations does maximise your chances of getting a perfect single exposure to work from!

Thanks Paul. The eye is amazing with its ability to adapt to the extremes of light level before it. And on the whole I agree that processing a single image can/ does produce a better result than trying to produce a totally natural look with bracketed HDR shots
