What Tuscany is?

by GIULIO57

What Italy is for you? Well…Mafia, Spaghetti, Pizza, Chitarra, Mandolino, bad drivers, smart (well dressed)peoples. Last but not least…..Sun!
What Tuscany is? Florence, Siena, Pisa and its Leaning Tower…Lucca and its Wall, Volterra, and so on…In these last years a Church in Val d’Orcia became the icon of Tuscany: Chiesa of Vitaleta in San Quirico d’Orcia….(glad to inform you that this Church was inside estate of property of my family till 1892, and The Belvedere close to it, as well. This is a fresh piece of news that I didn’t know due to “murder”-or suicide?- of my grand-grand-pa in 1894).
……..But I don’t like what above said. I was and I’m still looking for a stand-alone image that can better describe Tuscany. A few “elements” here and there…..and so Tuscany is in front of us in a “glance”.
Well…Tuscany in my opinion is a little bit of soil…A hill…A single cypress…and something “else” that reminds of “men’s work”….All over…The Sky.
Wherever you go a single cypress atop hill will represent that part of Tuscany…so that is “Tuscany”. All these elements “embedded” in a white blurred Poetry cloud. May be I’m wrong but I have tried to synthetize all this in one shot.
Harmony was very important so I decided to give a static dynamics to compo placing single trees at crossing of bottom one-third horizontal and vertical (left-right thirds) lines. Wheat bale lies just in the middle. Sky fills remaining 2/3. Hope you like it. Place: somewhere in Tuscany.

I DO like it---very much. Your photo strikes a most memorable, dreamily-poetic note. The colouration is inspired and the composition is right on target. Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo Giulio.

Minimalism at its very best. You have provided the very soul of the place you love with nothing to distract the viewer from what you deem important.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
