Super Power

After a murky day with poor light the evening got brighter about 6pm today, just as this LMS Class 8F was forging up the climb from the Eden Valley at Kirkby Stephen to Ais Gill summit in the Cumbrian Pennines. It was the Waverley charter express returning from Carlisle to York. This is a freight locomotive not built for express passenger trains but it's cleared to run at 60mph and it can certainly shift a heavy load up a steep incline.
K10+FA 70-200mm lens at 200mm. This old lens from my film camera days snaps into focus quicker than my DA*50-135mm lens when the camera is on drive which is great for action shots.

Thanks Cliff. The 8F was really working hard up here with a 500 ton train, and going faster than freight engines generally did in their working days.
This looks a little dark on here, on my monitor it's fine although I kept the exposure down to maintain a richness in the colour.

Very pleasing colour rendition and another super capture of an engine hard at work.
I especially like the texture, shadow and tones of the exhaust.
