Oliver Cromwell climbing to Shap

by davidtrout

Britannia class Oliver Cromwell on the hard climb to Shap summit with a special steam excursion today. It was working really hard with 12 or 13 coaches at about 40mph. Posted for GX10Cliff and Peter Weber.

Lovely shot- thanks for posting.

I can't place the location though. Is it back down the line towards Tebay from the place we discussed, or somewhere else?

You are obviously on the East side of the line now, so is it further North on the little road that splits the M6 in two?

Its a bit further up the line from Greenholme Peter, near Scout Green. I used your map to find it, there was more space for car parking there. I got to it under the split in the M6. Yes, it was East of the line and that gave me problems facing the sun.

Thanks for posting david lovely shot.

This is another must see for me http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t10/t0401a.htm The train passes within a couple of miles of our house and I know some good photo locations along the line! so hopefully some good shots
