Dashing Duchess

by pgweber

One of the most impressive and powerful steam engines running today is Ex LMS 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland'.

The loco is shown heading 'The Yorkshire Coronation', a day trip from Leicester to Scarborough on 4th April 2009.

The location is Bennerley Viaduct in the Erewash Valley near Ilkeston.

Shot using K10D/Rikenon M 50mm as PEF and converted in Silkypix.

There isn't much in this image to give away the fact that it was taken in 2009, It could almost be the 1950s!. The locomotive was making plenty steam for you which along with good composition makes an excellent photo.

Very nice. You could (if you wanted that is) edit out the graffifi and then it would look like this was shot in its heyday.

Thanks Cliff & zealousdp.

I have already done a bit of concealing (by accident) to give this photo more of a 'steam days' appearance.

Obscured by the great clouds of steam was a diesel locomotive attached at the back of the train to supply electric heating to the coaches.

This happens quite often and spoils the general impression.
