Silver Sea

by Jimmy_Dean0

This was taken in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida back in March, 2011. We were watching the cruise ships leaving port, and this youngster was surfing the wake as it bounced off the shore, back into the channel. As the ships went by the water got sucked out, and he would be standing high and dry on the bottom. Then the water would come rushing back and rebound off the shorline. It was like a mini tsunami!

I like this silver tones of the sea...well of water in general. I like this silhouette....and sport-action photos of surfers, boats and so on taken in such light conditions

Thanks very much for your kind comments .

To appreciate the "tsunami" effect of these ships going through the channel please have a look at these videos (I don't know how or why this phenomenon occurs, but it is quite amazing to watch ).... turn volume down - it was quite windy so lots of wind noise, sorry.

https://picasaweb.google.com/110473820339027157543/Tsunami#

The first one is quite short - ~1:30 min. This is the tsunami from Navigator of the Seas, a relatively small boat.

The second video is longer - ~3:00 min. This one shows the tsunami effect of the Oasis of the Seas - the second largest cruise ship in the world. (by 0.050 ft! Length 1,187 ft (360 m))

The quality is mediocre as I had to compress them severly (from ~450 mb and ~1.00 gb to 5.5 mb and 11.5 mb respectively).

Both videos were shot with my K-x, so they are Pentax videos .
