Whatever is it?

I found this at the back of the saucepan cupboard. Heaven knows how long it has been there. It's a sprouting potato.

Curiously, when I found it, the sprouty bits were growing upwards, as shown.

Makes for a fab image, almost like something from the sea! have a go at planting it, maybe in a pot, then update us on the result!
