When Light Rays Change Direction....

...they distort the neighbourhood, as here. Light rays change direction when they hit the medium of glass, say, in the first pane of double-paned windows. Then, light rays change direction again when they hit the space between panes, which can be filled with air, gas, foam, a drying agent such as silica beads, or a sealing material. And light rays change direction yet again when they hit the second pane, and again when they hit the building's interior. Any changes in density or composition within any of the above media will---you guessed it---also will cause light rays to alter their paths. The resulting reflection distortions I call "transmogrifications", which often have artistic merit.
