An interesting juxtaposition there David.
Either old vs new or East Coast vs West Coast.
Your luck was in to catch her just in time before the 'elecky' crossed in front of you.
Perhaps you were lucky again because she failed at Ferryhill on the return with a 'hot box' (loss of bearing lubricant) on one of the tender axles. A class 37 diesel took over from there, 90 minutes late.

The Duchess appeared to be having hot box trouble on the tender on the way north as well Peter. During its short stop at Durham support crew were giving it a lot of attention.

Lovely shot of old and new but it's the demanding dynamic range which is so impressive.
Best wishes,
Andrew
