Driftwood

by thingsthatihaveseen

Lincolnshire Coast. Heading towards sunset. Fast incoming tide. Had spotted this piece of driftwood earlier in the day when the tide was out. Managed to get back to it just as it was caught by the incoming tide. Long exposure.

Nice shot Bill. I particularly like the shadow of the driftwood which would normally go unnoticed with a fast shutter speed.

If S.Dali was still kicking he'd applaud this image. So do I. Shades of "Persistence of Memory" but smoother, refined. Long exposure adds to longer looks by viewer. One of your best(if not THE best) examples in the gallery. The shadow is the power but the sky ties any loose ends. Makes me jealous!!!! - tg

Thanks all... I was as pleased to get this shot as just about any I've ever taken... For a number of reasons... Partly because I'd taken a pretty long (6 hrs) round trip to get here on a bit of a hunch... Partly because it came right at the end of one of the most peaceful days i've spent anywhere... But mostly because I had no idea how this might turn out when I took it... I was pretty much expecting it to float away, or at least move, as soon as there was water underneath it... The tide was coming in so fast I knew I'd only get one shot at it with something of this length exposure wise... And while I did manage to get a couple of shorter exposures just after which I also like, this one shaded it for me for sheer unexpectedness, and gratitude...

That was certainly worth all the effort you put in!
