Please Help Identify

by Mac

Very quick snap of a fast moving, wasp or hornet-shaped pollen gatherer in my garden this morning.
Blue-black wings with black and yellow body.
I live in Quebec, Canada and I don't believe I've ever seen one of these before.

Help please.

Hi Mac, I think it's what's known as a Potter Wasp.

I will Google it just to check though.

Hi Mac, have just checked on the ID and I think it looks more like a Four-toothed Mason Wasp.

Have a look on Google and tell me what you think.

That's exactly what he is (white face), John.

Now I'll have to look for the black-faced female.

Fascinating insects.

Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction.

Be well, my friend!

Strangely, my macro lens was too far away to get to.

This is my 70-200mm F zoom, and some dancing around to get some sort of focus.

My photography is usually 95% luck-by-accident.
