A nice shot, that's what it is ;O) I think the plant is called ragwort and I spend way to much time stalking things that frequent it!

Thanks Betty, my guess is it's a Honey Bee but then I know nothing about bugs.

Ha, purely by accident I came across a photo of a Drone Fly on the internet and thought 'that looks familiar'

Wiki also tells me "The adult fly that emerges from the pupa is harmless. It looks somewhat like a drone honey bee" so I wasn't too far out with my first guess Swarf
