Garden Goldfinches

by pgweber

I have enjoyed seeing many pictures of these delightful little birds on this forum.

My parents' neighbour has a couple of feeders which attract blue tits & goldfinches but my photographic results on these have mostly disappointed.

This shot was obtained in my own garden where the feeders are somewhat closer to camera, using my 55-300 at 300mm to shoot raw and then using Silkypix with "Exaggerate Sharpness" set.

Does anyone have any other tips on how to bring out the plumage detail?

I think you've caught this pair very nicely - it isn't easy to get two that are looking roughly in the direction of the camera! And they are beautifully posed !

Thank you Sally, for your kind comments and the PM.

You have taken some excellent bird shots and I agree with your comment about shots without feeders giving a more natural appearance.

My garden is not the most secluded of settings for visitors like these so the feeder is my best means of encouraging them. Also I have angled it on the tree to assist in the pose you commented on.

Great capture. I love the colours. We don't have these around here unfortunately.
