Acheron River
by Horst
My wife and I where having a picknick in Buxton Victoria.
To Walk off the Food we consumed: Cheeses, Black pudding German style (hard) on French bread.and for afters A danish Pear pastry and an Escargot ( Schneckennudel) together with a glass of cool Traminer . The day was a lovely 25 deg C. We walked about 1 km and found this lovely spot on the Acheron River. The Eucalyptus leaves where smelling beautiful. We sat there for an hour and just enjoyed the view.
Taken with my beloved Pentax_f 35-70mm Lens and the K5.
Regards, Horst

That's a lovely shot Horst although I hate to think what is crawling and slithering out there! You like your picnics don't you! Nice to make use of all those picnic tables!

Hi Paul, you are correct. My wife and I, love our picnics. We go as often as possible.
There are a few reasons for that,.
1.0 We live in Melbourne, Voted repeatedly "The most livable city in the World"
2 We have the 4 seasons: Spring , Summer etc.
3. Most of the time , Of course with exceptions, The days are beautiful weather wise.
Sunny between 22 and 27deg C. On the real hot days, we stay at home. Not on the cooler days
3.) Most little towns and Bush towns and parks are within a radius of 200km. Easy to get there in the morning and home in the evening.
4.) Many town this days are quite lovely , The towns itself have plenty of European trees and if you go further out, you get the Gum trees. (eucalyptus.) And the leaves on the ground give off a most beautiful smell after rain.
5.) Also the food in this small towns is so terrible, that a picnic with your own food is the only way .
About all the creepy crawlies: This is highly overrated, You really , with exceptions, don't see any of the little fellows . For example, Snakes: A snake will always disappear as fast as possible, if they see or detect a human. The same goes with spiders. they don;t really come to tour picnic table or blanket and try to do you in.
We only have one slightly dangerous one and this is the Redback spider., I don;t think I have ever seen one.
Sydney has some more, like the Funnelweb, but who wants to live in Sydney anyway.
We have the Huntsman, . it grows up to around 15cm leg span and looks a bit like a bird spider.
It lives mostly in the backyards or in the house.
However it is quite harmless and if left in the alone, it gets rid of mosquitoes and fly's and other insects.
saves you using fly-sprays
The biggest problem is the shock, when it sits on a door handle or comes out of the curtains,
It always runs away, but if really cornered it tries to defend itself.
It has caused bad accidents in the car, if it suddenly runs across the windscreen or across you shoulder.
The problem is the shock and trying to move it off, while running in to another car.
Some children have some as pets.
All in all, In the state of Victoria, we are quite safe from all the wildlife,
We have no Tigers, Wolfs , Lyons and other Man- and Woman eaters.
Therefore if you ever want to settle in Australia, come to Victoria. The Garden State

Thanks for all that Horst. I must say I actually preferred Sydney over Melbourne but visiting is, of course, quite different to living! I haven't seen a Huntsman during my visits to Oz but I'm pretty sure I would freak out if I did! Friends that I stayed with up on the Gold Coast told stories of finding them in the house but they never made themselves visible during my stays, thank goodness! Anyway, it sounds like you are in a great location.
