think is was around 1957 last time I tried any form of calligraphy, with pens not quills

I still take pleasure in using my trusty 'Sheaffer' fountain pen with italic nib and black ink. My pen was a 21st Birthday Present and has seen me through engineering studies and exams. I learnt a simple fast Italic Script from a 'Puffin' book; 'Better Handwriting', published 1954 and reprinted 1955. Coincidentally this book was loaned to me about 1957, when I used an 'Osmeroid' fountain pen from 'Woolworth's'. I feel guilty that I still have that book!

My comment on lost skills was in relation to Britain giving up it's industries in favour of cheaper goods from abroad, thus losing it's skills as our craftsmen die off without passing those skills on.
