Gloucestershire's Finest

Remember when we used to make things in this country?

I found this wonderful old Lister stationary engine in a mine near Arguayo once used to drive a pump. The company produced engine for over 140 years, finally closing last year. Water was so precious in Tenerife that galleries were driven into the hills and the water pumped out.

Thanks for this Andrew. I love seeing these at country shows and I am surprised that Listers only ceased trading last year.

Lister used to make marine engines also.
Another great company now defunct!

Well, in a way. I think they were taken over and some staff were moved to a new site by the parent company.
Best wishes,

Andrew

I knew it was yours, Andrew. In the seventies smaller ones were very popular as boat engines in Turkey. They would start it with benzine and then would work well with kerosene, if I'm not mistaken.
