I think it was a bit of beginners luck to be honest although I tried a few different options. Seems like a shutter speed of 250-400 was about the best option depending on if if was shooting head on like this one (therefore fast moving) or with the car coming towards me at an angle in which case 250 was a better speed.
Either way sitting the camera in a monopod made life easier so just had to worry about the horizontal movement of the camera
